Professional Standards Officer - AIR

Applications are invited for position of Professional Standards Officer for the Australian Institute of Radiography.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Radiations practitioner to join the highly motivated team at the Australian Institute of Radiography. This newly created position will work closely with the Professional Accreditation and Education Board and the Professional Standards Manager to provide a comprehensive and co-ordinated approach to the delivery and maintenance of the AIR’s National Professional Development Programme (NPDP) objectives, purposes and achievements.

This is a part time, though full time will be considered, position in the heart of Melbourne, will offer the right candidate an opportunity to contribute to the development of the Medical Radiation Professions in Australia. The successful candidate will be part of a progressive team working within the peak body to provide quality programs for practitioners developing clinical knowledge and skills.

Position Description

The position, reports to the Professional Standards Manager, and is accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Establish work priorities surrounding NPDP development.
  • Review scheduled reports and action exception items relating to student/graduate enrolments, centre approvals, graduate reviews and NPDP Liaison education programme activity.
  • Ensure that all matters arising from NPDP activities are followed up, referred where necessary, and completed, including processing correspondence.
  • Develop and deliver reports and recommendations for improvements on required aspects of the NPDP as necessary and appropriate or as directed.
  • Functioning as the Projects officer for the PAEB, including attendance and involvement in all meetings
  • Assist in the review of education policies, professional standards policies and guidelines and deliver reports and recommendations on the appropriateness of these documents.
  • Develop training programs in regards to clinical practice professional standards


Essential Qualifications

  • Medical Imaging or Radiation Therapy Practitioner with a minimum of 5 years experience, with sound knowledge of the health industry in Australia.
  • Extensive understanding of contemporary Medical Imaging and/or Radiation Therapy clinical practices.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Sound understanding of the NPDP program
  • Exposure to the Institute's activities and its workings.
  • Thorough knowledge of IT systems and their application.

THE PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

APPLIED PHYSICS DEPARTMENT
Senior Lecturer (Radiation Therapy)

The successful candidate will coordinate the newly introduced 4-year Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy (BSRT) course. The course will run in conjunction with the Cancer Treatment Unit of the Angau Memorial Hospital.

The Lae Cancer Unit has begun treating patients using newly installed machines, like Theratronics Phoenix cobalt-60 teletherapy, Huestis Medical Simulator and Theraplan Plus. Plans are also in place to have a low dose rate brachytheraphy service available for patients very soon. There is a significant need for a Radiation Therapist to support further development of the radiotheraphy unit for the future and provide training to treatment and technical staff for its ongoing operation.

The successful candidate will be part of a team working within the discipline of Medical Radiations to provide quality learning experiences for students in developing pre-clinical knowledge and skills.

Duties specific to this position:

  • Coordinate the BRST course and teach medical imaging or radiotheraphy
    Units appropriate to the successful applicant’s background and expertise as a radiation therapist.
  • liaise with the Angau Cancer Unit, to use cancer treatment facilities for teaching.
  • perform administrative functions, which are connected with the units for subject areas for academic teaching.
  • produce teaching materials for students which the candidate should take professional leadership in.
  • demonstrate an ability to undertake the duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area or equivalent accreditation or standing.
  • have leadership abilities/role in the development, delivery and management of courses including liaising with students, promoting quality learning outcome and flexible learning environments.
  • ability to teach effectively and to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Applicants from a non-academic background should address this criterion by quoting equivalent experience such as delivery of seminars, conference papers and/or training courses, research and scholarship.
  • A minimum of 10 years fulltime equivalent clinical experience as a radiation therapist familiar with treatment facilities similar to that at the Angau Cancer Unit.
  • Statement of Accreditation with the National Institute of Radiography of the applicant’s nationality.
  • Must be a registered and licensed radiation therapist.
  • Experience which demonstrates ability to:
    - Conduct clinical assessments
    - Coordinate and teach into the units in the medical radiations Program
    - Organise and co-ordinate continuing education program.

Lecturer (Medical Physics)

The successful candidate will be part of a team working within the discipline of Medical Radiations to provide quality learning experiences for students in developing pre-clinical knowledge and skills.

Duties specific to this position:

  • Teach medical imaging or radiotherapy units appropriate to the successful applicant’s background and expertise.
  • Measuring and characterising radiation, determining delivered dose and establishing adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry.
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologist to design treatment plans, and monitoring equipment and procedures to ensure that cancer patients receive the prescribed dose of radiation to the correct location.
  • Produce teaching materials for students for whom the candidate has professional leadership.
  • demonstrate an ability to undertake duties prescribed for the position and must possess the necessary skills required for the position.

Qualification and Experience
