Staff shortage problem: ASMIRT President speaks out

11 March 2025

ASMIRT President Carolyn Heyes spoke to radiology publication Aunt Minnie about Australia's MRP shortage, and how the Society is introducing high school students to medical radiation science careers.

“Staff shortages mean people are waiting longer for imaging, which means a longer wait for diagnosis. We urgently need to invest in increasing the number of radiographers and other medical radiation practitioners in Australia."

According to the Australian Government's official Occupation Shortage List, medical radiation practitioners are in shortage in most states and territories.
