Vic XED Talks

NEW DATE: Thursday 9 October 2025

Have you heard of TED Talks? They're short, powerful presentations where speakers share inspiring ideas on topics like science, technology, and personal growth.

Now imagine TED Talks, but for the MRS profession. Introducing: XED Talks! Join us online on Thursday 9 October for an hour of inspiring, networking and CPD-endorsed talks tailored to medical radiation professionals.

Meet our three engaging presenters:

  • Carolyn Heyes, Senior Radiographer, Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, speaking on Advanced Practice in Medical Imaging
  • Mark Burns, Clinical Lead - Box Hill at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, presenting on advanced practice from a RT perspective
  • Dayna O'Shannessy, Radiographer and Acting Tutor at Austin Health, reflecting on her volunteering experience in Nepal

About our speakers

Carolyn Heyes is the previous President of ASMIRT. She is also a Trustee and Treasurer for the Nicholas Outterside Trust. Prior to joining the Board of Directors, Carolyn was an active member of both state and federal panels and committees of ASMIRT. Carolyn has held many roles over her career, including as a Clinical tutor, Deputy Chief Radiographer and as Radiography Manager. She now works as a senior radiographer at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Carolyn is keen to advance the profession and has a special interest in orthopaedic imaging, decreasing patient dose and increasing patient care.

Dayna O’Shannessy is a radiographer with experience across both public and private hospital settings, currently serving as the Acting Tutor at Austin Health where she supports the education and development of emerging medical imaging professionals. With a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education (University of Melbourne) and a Professional Certificate in AI in Healthcare (Stanford University), her ongoing commitment to the evolving profession has driven her to explore global perspectives in radiography, including her recent experience in Kathmandu, Nepal. There, she collaborated with local lecturers and healthcare staff to exchange knowledge and strengthen clinical practice in a cross-cultural context.
