The Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) is the peak body representing the interests of more than 8,800 medical radiation practitioners, and 1,900 medical radiation students.
ASMIRT members include radiographers, radiation therapists, sonographers, and nuclear medicine technologists.
Our mission is to empower and support radiography, radiotherapy, sonography, and nuclear medicine professionals through advocacy, education, research, and innovation.
ASMIRT works to support its members and advance the health of Australians by providing ongoing professional education for practitioners. Our large range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses satisfy the requirements of ongoing Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) registration.
We provide professional indemnity insurance, journey insurance, print and electronic publications, and a dedicated Member Services team to keep Members professionally safe and current.
We develop, maintain and uphold professional standards, and we fund, lead and engage in research for the betterment of the professions.
With our extensive networks, we lead advocacy influencing local, national, and international policy and practice. Through Certification and Advanced Practitioner capabilities, we formally recognise expertise modalities of practice, providing Members an edge over their peers. We also recognise, through Fellowship, members that have contributed at the highest level to both ASMIRT and the medical radiation professions as a whole.
ASMIRT members are at the heart of the healthcare system in Australia. According to Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data, in 2020โ2021:
More than half of these vital procedures were performed by ASMIRT members.
