ASMIRT is a registered not-for-profit organisation. As a company limited by guarantee, we comply with the applicable provisions of the Corporations Act 2021. A voluntary Board of Directors comprising the President, the Immediate Past President (for a term of one year), six State Branch elected Directors, and up to two appointed Directors from outside the immediate profession form the strategic direction of the Society.
Naomi Gibson, President
Naomi is the President of the ASMIRT Board of Directors. She is also the Board Liaison for the Education Committee. As Radiographer - Deputy Director at Queensland Health, she thrives on managing a diverse workforce, balancing technological innovations with the multiple challenges of a regional setting. Naomi’s vision is to work together with regional members and other members across Australia to build a strong network through effective communication.
Bernadette Byrne, Vice-President
Bernadette Byrne is the Tasmanian representative on the ASMIRT Board of Directors. She works as a Clinical Educator in Radiation Therapy with the Northern Cancer Service in Tasmania, where she develops clinical learning and educational innovations for oncology health professionals. With over 20 years of radiation therapy experience, Bernadette is committed to ensuring each patient experience is individualised and person-centred.
Bianca Magill, Honorary Secretary
Bianca Magill is Honorary Secretary and WA representative on the ASMIRT Board of Directors. She works as a radiographer and mammographer in Bunbury, southwest Western Australia. Passionate about using science to help people, Bianca is especially interested in person-centred care and supporting medical imaging students and early career radiographers.
Dr Nigel Anderson, Honorary Treasurer
Nigel is Honorary Treasurer and the Victoria representative on the ASMIRT Board of Directors. Nigel was the inaugural chair of the ASMIRT Research Committee and is now Board Liaison for the Membership and Advocacy Committee. Nigel is currently the Radiation Therapy Manager / Chief Radiation Therapist at Austin Health in Melbourne. He is passionate about research and development, having completed his PhD in 2019, and is keen to ensure medical radiation practitioners advocate and lead change through evidence-based practice.
Laura Adamson, New South Wales Representative
Laura is the New South Wales representative on the ASMIRT Board of Directors. She is currently a Senior Quality Improvement and Research Radiation Therapist at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals in Sydney; and is the Board Liaison for the Research Committee. Laura is passionate about research and quality improvement, having recently completed a Master of Philosophy. She is keen to see more medical radiation practitioners involved in research and quality improvement to ensure Australian medical radiation consumers receive world class care.
Michelle Devine, SA-NT representative
Michelle is the South Australia and Northern Territory representative on the ASMIRT Board of Directors. With over 20 years' experience in radiography, she is currently the Operations Manager of a medical imaging company in South Australia. She previously worked as Senior Radiographer General x-ray and Fluoroscopy (2006-2011) and Chief Radiographer (2011-2023) at Flinders Medical Centre. Michelle is passionate about driving positive workplace culture, building high performing teams, mentoring, prioritising patient safety, and staff wellbeing.
Stephanie Price, Queensland representative
Stephanie is the Queensland representative on the ASMIRT Board of Directors. With over 25 years' experience in radiation therapy, she is currently the Group Director of Radiation Therapy at Icon Group. Stephanie is passionate about addressing workforce challenges, such as workload management, mental health support, and career development pathways for both emerging and experienced professionals.
Carolyn Heyes, Past President
Carolyn is the immediate past president of ASMIRT and a former member of many ASMIRT committees, at state and national levels. She is currently a senior radiographer at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Carolyn is keen to advance the profession and has a special interest in orthopaedic imaging, decreasing patient dose and increasing patient care.
The below chart shows the governance structure of ASMIRT, with the Board and its relationships with committees, panels and reference groups. The ASMIRT CEO reports to the Board, with the Secretariat staff reporting to the CEO through a management structure.
ASMIRT is governed by its Constitution, which defines the organisation, and provides a basic set of ‘rules’ for the Society’s daily running and management.
ASMIRT recognises its obligation and duty to identify and promote exemplary professional standards of practice, conduct and performance. Each member has a personal and professional responsibility to adhere to these standards. These guidelines should be read in conjunction with ASMIRT’s Constitution.
The strategic plan is established by the Board. It lays out high-level goals and direction for the Society.
