ASMIRT is the peak body representing the interests of radiographers, radiation therapists, sonographers, and nuclear medicine technologists.
The Australian Institute of Radiography was incorporated in 1950 and formally changed its name to the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) in 2016, reflecting the diversity of treatment and imaging professionals as part of its membership.
ASMIRT’s mission is “To empower medical radiation professionals to provide excellent care through leadership in advocacy, education, professional standards, research and innovation”.
ASMIRT supports its members and advances the health of Australians by providing ongoing professional education for practitioners. Our large range of continuous professional development (CPD) courses satisfy the requirements of ongoing Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) registration.

Through Certification and demonstration of Advanced Practitioner capabilities we formally recognise expertise in modalities of practice, providing Members an edge over their peers.
We develop, maintain and uphold professional standards, and we fund, lead and engage in research for the betterment of the professions.

ASMIRT members must hold or currently be undertaking a recognised medical radiation sciences qualification.
Membership has two categories: voting and non-voting. These categories have different pricing and privileges.
Members may elect to pay fees on a fortnightly or monthly basis.
