Radiation Therapy career video out now

19 February 2025

Australia has a medical radiation practitioner shortage and when young people consider their career options, medical radiation science isn’t often front of mind. That’s why we partnered with Explore Careers, Australia’s largest early career and employment platform, focused on giving young people the guidance to make decisions about their future.

The ASMIRT Explore Careers profile now includes a brand new video to introduce young people to a career in radiation therapy.

Radiation therapist Eddie speaks candidly about his career, from his time at university, to what it’s like using a linear accelerator, to working with people who are on a difficult journey, and finding work life balance.

“It is such a rewarding career,” Eddie says.

“Anyone who has a curiosity for helping people, for science and for health care, I think they’re going to get a lot out of this career.”

Explore Careers will provide this video to Year 11 and 12 students, and high school career counsellors.

We are grateful to Austin Health for allowing us to film the video on their premises. We look forward to releasing Radiographer and Nuclear Medicine Technologist career videos in the coming months.
