Services to Members & the Community


  • Is involved at Government level on Boards, Committees representing Radiographers and Radiation Therapists on Rural Health, Casemix, Professional Indemnity Insurance, Mammography, Imaging Services, Medicare, Mutual Recognition, Priority Occupations listings, Overseas trained Radiographers Assessment, Professional Practice Standards, Mutual Recognition and a number of other areas thus ensuring Professional protection to Medical Radiation Science.
  • Has representatives heavily involved in all areas of education, with an increasing role in G.P. and operator training for rural and remote areas.
  • State & Territory Health Ministers have agreed to ASMIRT  recommendations that "Radiographers and Radiation Therapists shall be regulated in all Jurisdictions" and State regulations have been formulated in those areas which previously did not regulate Radiographers.
  • ASMIRT recognises the Medical Radiation Practice Boards approved program in Australia
  • Maintains a database of all ASMIRT members and provides information when requested, to RACs and the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia
  • Has publications which provide Professional updates and expertise in all areas of the Profession

The array of documents produced by the ASMIRT  includes the following areas:  

    • Constitution & By-Laws
    • Policies & Guidelines 
    • The Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences - official journal of the Society, four editions published per annum 
    • Spectrum Magazine - official newsletter of the Society, published monthly
    • Miscellaneous Brochures & Information Sheets
  • Provides regular Seminars, Conferences and ongoing educational programmes which form a vast part of the knowledge imparted to members
  • Is involved in the Professional Practice Standards project of which the ASMIRT is the administration arm 
  • Ensures that Members interests are looked after in more than ten Panels devoted to the many facets of the Profession plus direct representation in a number of other areas devoted to Medical Radiation Science

Our aims are to promote, encourage, cultivate and maintain the highest principles of practice and proficiency in respect of Medical Radiation Science. ASMIRT facilitates educational activities, discussion, and consultation with members and others. We recognise MRPBA approved programs of study across Australia, set standards of competency in practice and encourage scholarship and continuing professional development.
