ASMIRT is the peak body representing the interests of radiographers, radiation therapists, sonographers, and nuclear medicine technologists.
Our mission is to empower medical radiation practitioners to provide excellent care through leadership in advocacy, education, professional standards, research and innovation.
Formerly known as the Australian Institute of Radiography, we became a legal entity in 1950 and formally changed our name to the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in 2016, reflecting the diversity of imaging and treatment professionals within our membership.
ASMIRT works to support its members and advance the health of Australians by providing ongoing professional education for practitioners. Our large range of CPD courses satisfy the requirements of ongoing Ahpra registration.
We provide professional indemnity insurance, journey insurance, print and electronic publications, and a dedicated Member Services team to keep Members professionally safe and current.
Through Certification and demonstration of Advanced Practitioner capabilities we formally recognise expertise in modalities of practice, providing Members an edge over their peers.
We develop, maintain and uphold professional standards, and we fund, lead and engage in research for the betterment of the professions.
We lead advocacy through our extensive networks, influencing local, national and international policy and practice.
ASMIRT Members are further entitled to exclusive benefits and offers from the Society and our loyalty programs, including discounts on travel, accommodation, personal insurances, the purchase of motor vehicles, consumer goods and a range of activities. The Member Advantage program is available through the member portal.
There are two categories of members, voting and non-voting. The categories have different pricing and privileges.
The ASMIRT privacy policy explains how we manage the personal information we collect and use. ASMIRT complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, as well as other relevant State and Territory legislation regarding the management of personal information.
