12,000 and Counting – Sign Up to End Student Placement Poverty

12 February 2026

The petition to end student poverty is over 12,000 signatures strong

We’re over 12,000 signatures closer to ending placement poverty for future Medical Radiation Practitioners (MRPs), and your support can make a deciding difference.

Since launching a national petition alongside our campaign partner, Allied Health Professions Australia, and Members of Parliament Dr. Helen Haines, Dr. Monique Ryan, and Andrew Gee, with Senators David Pocock and Fatima Payman, we have seen a groundswell of support for students experiencing poverty during their lengthy placement.

Allied Health Professions Australia joining MPs Dr. Monique Ryan, Dr. Helen Haines and Senators David Pocock and Fatima Paymann at Parliament House to launch the petition.

Uniquely, Medical Radiation Students (MRS) require up to 2,100 hours across 56 weeks of unpaid placement, which is almost double the next closest profession. Unfortunately, up to 20% of MRS students are hungry, homeless or otherwise considering deferring or dropping out of their degrees.

By including allied health students in the Commonwealth Prac Payments Scheme (CPP), MRS students can receive the vital support they need during their unpaid placement period.

In joining over 12,000 signatures, you can be the deciding difference that helps more MRS' get across the finish line.
