Laura Di Michele was awarded the Dorothy Lorimer Bursary at yesterday's ASMIRT/NZIMRT 2025 Opening Ceremony. Marilyn Zelesco, ultrasound expert and educator, was given the Board Award, having advised ASMIRT on a range of topics over many years. Announced as the "Secret Award", Patricia Fanning was awarded life membership, to acknowledge over 30 years of providing exceptional member services as an ASMIRT staff.
The pinnacle of ASMIRT grants, the Dorothy Lorimer Bursary, valued up to $50,000, is awarded to a member who will bring substantive international knowledge to Australian practice. The recipient is expected to deeply learn new techniques and upon return comprehensively convey practical learnings.
The Dorothy Lorimer Bursery will allow Laura to participate in OPTIMAX, an annual research-intensive summer school in the Netherlands where participants from various countries come together to work on research projects. This program enhances research skills, develops international collaborative networks across institutions, and shapes the future leaders of our profession. On her return, Laura’s focus will be to create a similar program in Australia to meet local requirements.
Board Award winner Marilyn has been an active member and a staunch supporter of the professional body throughout her entire career. She has expertly and generously engaged in all facets of medical imaging continually and generously providing and sharing her expertise.
Marilyn’s CV documents a career full of professional activity, contribution to the profession in every form possible, including publications, presentations at conferences, seminars, and other educational events, protocol development, teaching and tutoring to name a few.
Patricia Fanning has been employed in the ASMIRT Secretariat for over 30 years. As the Administration Officer - CPD/Certification, Patricia is known for her warmth and positivity. She is often the first person to put her hand up to help when something extra needs doing. The Life Membership acknowledges Patricia's exceptional service to members.
