Ahpra is conducting a public consultation on proposed updates to the National Prescribing Competencies Framework. These updates aim to keep the framework current, reflect evolving education and multi-profession practices, whilst supporting optimal health outcomes in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
The public consultation is open until Friday 30 May 2025.
Ahpra's Public Consultation Paper lists the proposed updates on pages 5 and 6, with the consultation questions on page 8.
This public consultation is part of a wider review to ensure that all prescribers can prescribe safely within their scope and understand the prescribing process in the Australian system. More information, including how you can provide feedback, is available on the Ahpra website.
The National Prescribing Competencies Framework outlines the core competencies required for safe, effective, and person-centred prescribing, supporting rational and quality use of medicines throughout the prescribing process. Its current version was published in April 2021.
