Where can I study?

Where can I study?

Diagnostic radiography and radiation therapy programmes are available through most States and Territories in Australia.

Studying these courses may involve may involve:

  • Completion of an approved three-year undergraduate medical imaging or radiation therapy Bachelor degree followed by completion of the Supervised Practice Programme (SPP).
  • Completion of an approved four-year undergraduate medical imaging or radiation therapy Bachelor degree.
  • Completion of an approved two-year graduate entry medical imaging or radiation therapy Master degree followed by completion of the Supervised Practice Programme (SPP). 
  • Completion of graduate entry medical imaging or radiation therapy Master degree, approved by Medical Radiation Practice Board for general registration.

All programmes include a professional clinical practice component. Students may be required to undertake this component in non-metropolitan or interstate locations.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) maintains the complete list of the approved programs of study.

Where can I study Ultrasound?

Ultrasound/Sonography is a postgraduate qualification in Australia. To undertake these programs, you must possess an appropriate qualification such as diagnostic radiography/medical imaging, radiation therapy, biomedical science or nursing.

A number of the universities that conduct the professional entry programs in diagnostic radiography offer ultrasound/sonography programs.
