Dose, Exposure and Image Quality in General Radiography

This practical “Back to Basics” workshop revisits the core principles of general radiography. Explore how exposure factors, patient factors, positioning, collimation and equipment settings influence radiation dose and image quality. Through case-based discussion, strengthen your ability to balance diagnostic quality with dose optimisation, troubleshoot suboptimal images and apply ALARA principles confidently in everyday clinical practice.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

• Apply dose optimisation and ALARA principles to select appropriate exposure factors and recommend practical strategies for achieving diagnostic quality images
• Identify the key technical, patient, positioning and equipment factors that influence radiation dose and image quality in general radiography 
• Analyse radiographic images and exposure scenarios to determine how these factors contribute to suboptimal image quality or unnecessary radiation dose

Exploring Feedback for Everyday Practice

This interactive 90-minute workshop is designed for medical radiation clinicians to build confidence and capability in giving and receiving feedback in everyday clinical practice. Through facilitated discussion, reflection, group activities, and peer learning, participants will explore how feedback contributes to professional growth, team effectiveness, and positive workplace culture. The workshop focuses on practical strategies for navigating both reinforcing and constructive feedback conversations while responding openly and professionally when receiving feedback.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Examine the role of effective feedback and communication in supporting clinical excellence, professional growth, and positive team culture within medical radiation practice.
• Identify barriers to giving and receiving effective feedback and develop strategies that adapt to different clinical settings.
• Apply practical communication strategies to creating constructive, respectful, and psychologically safe feedback conversations.
