Bring your skills as a Radiation Therapist to British Columbia, located on the west coast of Canada! BC Cancer is currently seeking experienced Radiation Therapists to join their team of professionals health care providers at one of our cancer centres located throughout the province. Choose from different settings offering different lifestyles: city centre on the south coast, suburban city with farming roots, or outdoor recreation in the north. What you’ll do

Radiation Therapists are key members of the interdisciplinary teams at all BC Cancer Centres, working with nursing staff, physicians, social workers, and other disciplines to provide care for patients and their families throughout all stages of individualized treatment plans. The focus of the Radiation Therapists is to provide radiation services and patient care through treatment planning, delivery, and follow up. All services and provided in accordance with established policies and standards of professional practice for radiation therapy. Typical duties include:

• Provide patient care including patient assessment, reviewing patient and family history, educating patients and families on treatment process, side effects and recommending self-care measures.
• Consult with and/or refers patients to members of other health care disciplines as required.
• Perform treatment planning procedures by: reviewing, interpreting and implementing radiation treatment prescriptions for brachytherapy and external beam radiation therapy which include computerized treatment plans, use of immobilizing and beam modifying devices and, accurate dose calculations:
  • 1. Constructs immobilization, beam direction and shaping devices.
  • 2. Uses simulation and related equipment for generation and verification of treatment plans.
  • 3. Positions/marks patient for optimal dose distribution and reproducibility of treatment plan.
  • 4. Performing manual and computerized planning calculations for radiation treatment techniques.
• Assist the patient in the interpretation of the treatment plan and evaluates the patient’s understanding of treatment and side effects.
• Ensure patients and families are aware of services available at BC Cancer and in the community.
• Maintain accurate patient and treatment records by collecting and documenting information related to the patient and health care history, radiation therapist assessment, symptom and side effect management, and patient and family education.
• Perform quality assurance checks of equipment in assigned work areas, maintains records of checks and takes appropriate action on equipment malfunctions.

 What you bring

•  A degree in Radiation Therapy from the United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia and equivalent education systems
• Completion of Entry-to-Practice Certification: Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) is required to work in Canada as a Radiation Therapist.  You also have demonstrated:

• Interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other health care providers.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position and operate related equipment.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize issues and workload.
• Ability to apply clinical and technical knowledge into practice, including CPR techniques.
