The Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences (JMRS) is the journal of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT), and the New Zealand Institute of Medical Radiation Technology (NZIMRT). An international and multi-disciplinary, peer-reviewed journal, JMRS accepts manuscripts related to medical imaging/diagnostic radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, medical ultrasound/sonography, and the complementary disciplines of medical physics, radiology, radiation oncology, nursing, psychology, and sociology.
Four issues are published annually in March, June, September and December, with special themed and virtual issues also produced through the year. ASMIRT provides hard copies of the journal to members as a member benefit.
JMRS articles attract almost 600,000 downloads per annum. The journal has a current impact factor of 2.1. (A scientific journal’s impact factor measures the average number of citations received per article during a specific time period.)
The journal is fully open-access and is available online at www.jmrsjournal.com

What is the aim of the Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences Reviewer Mentoring Program?
The JMRS Reviewer Mentoring Program is designed to guide and support new or novice reviewers or those that have some experience in peer review but desire more formal training. The overall goal of the JMRS Editorial Review Board is to consistently provide quality written peer reviews that authors can use to guide them during the JMRS publication process.
What does it involve?
The mentee is assigned to a JMRS associate editor with similar professional interests. The associate editor will act as a mentor to help, guide and support the mentee reviewer when writing their peer review.
Once at least two manuscript reviews are completed to the satisfaction of the mentor, the mentee is deemed to have successfully completed the program. The successful participant receives a certificate of completion and added to the JMRS peer reviewer database. Upon successful completion of the program, the mentee will be invited to review for JMRS in the area of their expertise.
The program will commence in July 2024 with a pilot program of five matched mentors and mentees.
