Hosted by the ASMIRT QLD Branch, this important online seminar will explore how medical radiation practitioners can enhance care for LGBTIQA+ patients by better understanding their experiences, needs, and challenges in the clinical setting.
The session will unpack the cultural, social, and personal sensitivities that shape patient interactions, discuss the barriers LGBTIQA+ communities face in accessing quality healthcare, and explore how practitioners can adapt their approach to deliver inclusive, safe, and affirming care.
Whether you are new to this topic or passionate about equity in healthcare, this session is designed to improve your confidence and capability while making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.
Dr John McInerney and Sharon Pooniah will be presenting "Safety and quality care for trans and gender diverse people in medical radiation science."Â A panel discussion with John, Sharon and Aiden Cook will follow the presentation.

He is passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion for all people and in 2023 launched the "Wear it, Ally in training" program in the radiography degree.
Sharon Ponniah (she/they) is a Clinical Educator Radiographer.
